Mountain biking might look like a solo sport, but NICA is built on teams!
NICA teams give young people a place to ride, belong, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of cycling. By starting a NICA team, you’ll create new opportunities for youth in your community while becoming part of a growing movement that’s reimagining youth sport through mountain biking.
You can! You don’t need to be a professional coach, experienced race organizer, or elite rider to start a NICA team. Many teams begin with a parent, educator, community leader, or volunteer who wants to create positive opportunities for young people through cycling. If you’re passionate about helping youth ride, learn, and grow, NICA Canada provides the support and training to help you get started.
When you start a team, NICA provides:
Coach education and training
Clear guidance on roles, expectations, and safety
Policies, insurance, and risk management
Practice resources and program tools
Plans and infrastructure to support practices
Ongoing support from the NICA community
NICA team support allows volunteers like you to focus on creating great experiences for kids in your community!
The best way to learn about NICA is to experience it firsthand. Join an upcoming information session, community ride, or Leadership Summit to meet the NICA community, ask questions, and learn more about opportunities to get involved.
Starting a NICA team in Ontario or Quebec is a supported, step-by-step process. NICA Canada guides future team leaders through each stage, providing training, resources, and operational support.
